Question, what do you think the future holds for disc golf? It keeps growing, but in what direction? Will it ever be a sport as common as say baseball, football, hockey... your thoughts. Zman

Wow, 13 views and nobody wants to talk about what the future of disc golf might be, it could be as big as say the MLB, or the NFL, or SKATEBOARDING, yes those kids really do get paid quite a bit for skateboarding, way more than Professional disc golfers. I used to tell my son that skateboarding is fun, but you can't make a living doing that. YEAH RIGHT!!Anyway, have a MERRY CHRISTMAS. ZMAN

Zman, it seems like this question came up a long time ago on another thread. At that time opinions were all over the place. For me, personally, I don't know why it's not more popular than it is. It's fun, it's cheap, it's good exercise that even, ahem, sedentary folk like Buck and myself can enjoy ... what is there NOT to like about disc golf?
But the point was made that it isn't a particularly new sport. It's been around for 30+ years. Over that time if you graphed the growth of the sport, it probably would look impressive.
If it were ever just to take a quantum leap in terms of popularity, it would almost have to come from some kind of television tie-in. If ESPN2 or whoever took a chance on a 30-minute show on it, it might take off in dramatic fashion. I mean, shoot, we'll watch frigging POKER on television, and darts, and billiards. Why couldn't disc golf, well-shot, be an entertaining TV sport?
But if you think about that, there are corrollary questions. Would you really LIKE for it to get bigger, for people of wildly varying skill levels to be jostling you fore and aft every time you got out on the course? On the one hand I'd be gratified to be on the cutting edge of something popular and to see others enjoy it. On the other hand it would be as annoying as all-get-out.

ESPN said last year they would cover some of the USDGC tournament, but they never did. I attended this year's and it was a dual between Doss and Jenkins right down to the wire... AWSOME. Your'e right poker, billards and darts, give me a break ! ESPN is scared like on taking a chance, it might hurt thier image. They have to remember way I believe so many people watch there network, Awsome coverage and variety.People that never even thought about ball golf are huge fans due to Tiger Woods.Even if disc golf explodes with pay courses , there still will be public free courses.Disc golf is such a pure sport, one person, one disc, well a whole bag full,ZMAN.
