For the 2009 season I would like to take a year away from any disc golf involvement other than just playing. I have run tourneys and local series for the past 13 years in NC and GA. It's time for a break. I am looking for volunteers for the Stephens County Pro-Am, Georgia States, Friday night doubles, Sunday doubles, Border wars and Juniors Holiday Classic. I will help anyone to get started with all the info they need. If you are interested in any of these events please post here or give me a call and we'll talk further. I will continue to do Team Toccoa events. Thanks for your help and understanding - John

I had a feeling this was coming. I think I can do the Sunday and/or Friday night doubles. Depends how much more than running the events there is to it. I might need relief if I am out of town a particular week. The big events I'm sure I don't have time for, but may be able to help someone else out depending on my schedule at the time.
I appreciate all you and your family have done for disc golf.

Thanks Duffer. I thought that you might take the doubles. You did a great job this year when I needed you. There's not a lot more to do than what you did. I'll contact you soon and we can go over the details. No pressure if you decide that you would rather not. I'll be calling - John

John, I feel the same as Duffer. I'd be willing to help out in any way possible, but I think I'm way too inexperienced for the big tourneys. I can definitely help with the doubles. If no one steps forward to run the Stephens Co or the GA states, would it be possible for us to do it as a group effort? Maybe form a Toccoa club or something. I'd just hate to see those tourneys not happen. I'm leaving for Australia tomorrow and coming home in early December. Keep me in mind if there's anything I can do.

The club idea might be an option who's time has come. Kick it around everyone. Post your thoughts .

I think a club effort would work. I'd like to help run some of the bigger events.

Border wars this year would be an easy tourney to take over. This year is SC's year to get the custom discs and the payout discs. The second round will be here. We need someone to host our side. That would be getting the CTP holes and merch. Helping to compile scores and figure the final tally. Maybe Clay and Chris can take this on together?

Josh, what would you like? Ice Bowl- Jr's- Pro-Am- States. The Ice bowl would be great to get your feet wet. The Pro-Am would be a good one too. The States I may keep. Talk to me - John

I'm not ready to take anything completely solo, except the Jrs.... maybe the Ice Bowl, if I had you sort of guiding me through it. I'd really like to do the Pro-Am, but I would have to have a lot of help for that.

John I feel your pain and if it not pain I understand the importance of guarding time for the more important things in life. I too have been running tournaments for 13 years. You have done a great job. Let me know how I can help. See yall at Fright Flight...John you playing in that?

John has been a fantastic asset to DG in north GA. When I worked in Stephens County, I feared that the day would come when John would go away, be taken away or that he would take a break. I hope his play during this break will include the 2nd May Day Madness here at the HERM in Oconee County. His support of that last year made this a better event.
John has shown Stephens County great dedication in promoting this sport. His dedication to his family is why he came to the area. His dedication to the sport is why its doing so well in Toccoa and is why I have sought his advice in how to help it flourish here in Watkinsville.
John - God bless, as you take time to dedicate to yourself, your family and your playing!

As you all know, neither Buck nor I are much into the competitive side of disc golf, but we can drag brush and do yardwork with the best of them. If you're looking for volunteers to do stuff, I'm willing to step up and organize periodic work parties and such. Maybe we can finally get the hill on #15 burned down this winter.

I'm sure that Clay and I can do Border Wars together. It'll give us a chance to see what is needed to do so that we can help put on any other tournements throughout the year. I might even be able to help Josh with the Ice Bowl. Isn't it about time to start working on that, or at the least get a flier out for it?
