John, you weren't kidding about the Meeks course up in Blairsville. Strapped the bag on the back of the motorcycle and went up there a weekend or two ago. Man, what a FANTASTIC course! My hat is off to you, brother. You have a gift. When I win the Lotto and buy me some acreage, I'm going to get you to design my private course.
Just curious, it looks like maybe they had the course laid out one way in the past (at least there appears to be remnants of old teepads on several holes) and then changed it to the current long/short tee format. Is this the case?

Good observation skills my man. There was a 9 hole course in place. We tweaked the front 9 and added the back 9. Glad you liked it. Your opinion is a valuable one. See you on the links - John

John, I finally talked Bart into going up with me to Blairsville to check out Meeks. He was as impressed with it as I was; I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't call you and tell you himself.
Also, you know in "Kung Fu" where the master tells the pupil to "Snatch the pebble from my hand, grasshopper" as a test of when he's truly become a kung fu master himself? That trip marked my "grasshopper moment." Bart was rusty and I was on my game, and I beat him for the first (and probably only) time ever. I was -2 from the short tees and he was -1. I didn't gloat about it too much to Bart at the time, but, man, I'll tell you, there was some fist-pumping and whooping going on in my car once I got in it to leave.
Woot!

Any time you can get a win against Bart you've played a good round of golf. Sounds like you're stepping up your game. The next course you may want to check out would be the one at Boiling Springs near Spartanburg. It has new tee pads in and 18 holes. They have done a great job on this course. It may be my favorite in the SC upstate. We may make this our first road trip course. - John

Does the Boiling Springs course have another name, John? I'm in Spartanburg tomorrow and Friday, and wanted to go play it Friday afternoon.
None of the courses on the PDGA's site seem to match your description. Let me know ASAP.
(If it's any help to you, the thing I'm at over the next two days is at USC-Upstate in Spartanburg. I'd love to tell you what part of Spartanburg that's in, but I've never been to this campus in my life.)

Patrick, the course is in Boiling Springs. Exit #75 off of HWY 9. The course name is Va Du Mar. If you go to pdga.com and click on the course directory, then click on South Carolina. You'll see the course listed under Boiling Springs. They also have good directions to the course here. Have fun. They just installed concrete tee pads. It flows easy also. See you soon. Let me know what you think about the course. - John
