Y'all know how sometimes you go into a zenlike state when you're playing, and stuff just comes to you?
It happened to me, maybe six or eight weeks ago. Buck and I were walking up eighteen, and a disc golf haiku wrote itself in my head. For those of you who've been out of English class for a while, that's a three-line Japanese poetry form with five syllables in the first line, seven syllables in the second, and five in the final line.
It was this:
if you throw it right
it'll make a little wsst!
as it leaves your hand
Now, can any of you top that? Or, heck, maybe a disc golf limerick? A disc golf sonnet? Just a line or two of iambic pentameter about disc golf?
Damon, I should've warned you that Buck and I - Buck especially - tend to move in odd directions on forums like this sometimes. Consider this an example.

The wsst! is that little hiss-of-air noise you hear when you really rip one. Like a whip traveling through the air. The pad's got to be kinda quiet to hear it.

Patrick, it took a lot of clapping, but here is my contribution:
If you throw it wrong
It will make you really mad
Here's five syllables
The last line needs some work, but we can build on it.

Dirt! My brother! I read your haiku and nearly cried! Literally!
By the way - and this has nothing to do with poetry - I have the Red Headed Swede in my bag. Buck and I are going out to play this morning. I'll try not to lose it. Woot!

Jim asked what an ace feels like. I've only thrown a pair of aces, but I felt this on both of them. So this is for Jim.
The release is sweet.
You feel the chains from the tee.
It's in the basket.

Not haiku but........
Sunday mornin’, rolling on.
(to the tune of Kris Kristofferson’s “Sunday morning, coming down”)
Well I woke up Sunday morning
And couldn’t wait to get my feet into the dirt
The 64 I shot on Saturday was really bad
But a Sunday 63 sure couldn’t hurt
So I stumbled to my closet for my worn out socks
And my muddy disc golf shirt
Grabbed my water, my Goody’s Powders and my cigarettes
And headed out the door to try again.
Playing Sunday morning disc golf
It’s even better than being stoned
Even though there’s something about disc golf
That hurts me deep into my bones.
I’ll keep walking while I’m able
Even though my ankles and knees are nearly gone
I’ll be trudging on that disc golf course
Sunday mornin’, rolling on.

How about a limerick:
There was a disc golfer named Dirt
With amateur par he would flirt
But just as it seemed
He'd fulfill his dream
By a shot out of bounds he'd be hurt
