For those who would like to help. Some of the things we will work on are: Repair and re-paint the Jr. tee pads. Clear out hill on #15 Trim the path on #19 Clean off tee pads Maybe clear fairway for #18 alt. pin location Clean and flatten the tee signs If you can't come out on that date ,but would like to contribute, please feel free to work on any of these things that you can do. If you are planning on being there, let me know. - John

John, you know I'm in, and though I haven't spoken to him, I'd be real surprised if Buck isn't in, either.
About the hill on #15. As you know, me and Buck requested and got that job at our work day in February, and it looked pretty sharp until about April. In retrospect, we just made the weeds and brush mad, because I think it's thicker now than it was this time last year.
Nothing's going to help that hill unless you get permission from the park to start a fire there. In terms of safety, I'd think that island of stuff with roads and bare earth around it on all sides would be plenty safe in terms of containing the fire. While you had it going, it would be an EXCELLENT way to dispose of the brush we get from around the course (and there is plenty of it.)
The only concern of theirs I could see would be those bricks up top getting scorched or damaged, but I can't imagine a fire would hurt brick.
Could you ask and see if we could burn that day, weather and overall burn conditions permitting?
If they don't let us do that, I'd propose waiting until after the first frost before we tackle that. I think the number of snakes and stinging insects who live in that island of stuff would astound us all if we could know just how many there were.
In other words, I'll tend a fire, but y'all can count me out of sling-blading, bush-axing, etc. This summer has just made me too jumpy about getting stung or bitten.

And where are you thinking of for an alternate pin on #18? Longer, shorter, or just different? Or do you want to keep it a secret until the unveiling?

Or an alternative method to deal with #15. Now, y'all will think I'm crazy as a loon, and that I'm joking here, but I can assure you I'm serious.
If we bought or borrowed a goat, and tethered it on that hill, the goat would be in heaven and would dispose of that growth in the "greenest" manner possible.
I wouldn't have thought of or suggested it unless I'd seen it work. I worked at a summer camp in Tallulah Falls for years when I was younger, and we reclaimed a hopelessly overgrown hill - kudzu, no less, in that case - by pinning down two goats and just leaving them to eat themselves silly for a few days.
Again, it sounds crazy, but when it works, and you can actually find a disc on a bad arcing hyzer shot on #15, you will hail me as a genius.

As per last time, I'll bring every tool I have that might be remotely useful in such an endeavor.
Now, if this thread is any indicator, I'm a tad disappointed in my fellow disc golfers. Is it just going to be me, Buck, John and dynoman out there?
We enjoy this tremendous resource for absolutely nothing year-round. Seems like your enjoyment of the course would be directly proportional to your willingness to put a little sweat equity into it.
Let's get out there and make it look good. If there's a bunch of us, it won't take long at all.

I have checked with Jeremy in the past about burning out that hill and so far it yasn't happened. I will talk to him again. You have a good point about waiting to clear it out until later. As far as #18 goes, it would be shorter and different. See you all soon - John

I'll bring a flat shovel and my weed eater. I'll also bring my chainsaw, but the chain's so dull i't'll barely cut melted butter (worked it too hard this Spring). How long of a ladder do we need? I've got an extension ladder, but I'd rather not haul it around unless no one else has one. See ya Saturday.
